In a decisive move to reclaim public space, Western Railway, in co-ordination with local authorities, conducted a large-scale demolition drive near Bandra East Railway Station on Thursday. The operation successfully removed 45 unauthorised and soft encroachments, clearing vital space for commuters.
150-strong force dismantles illegal structures
The crackdown involved around 150 personnel, including Western Railway staff, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and city police. The team was supported by heavy machinery, including JCBs, to dismantle the illegal structures. The clear-up aims to ease congestion and improve commuter safety near the busy station.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by Western Railway to prevent illegal encroachments and improve the overall accessibility of public spaces. The drive not only enhances safety but also reflects the authorities’ vow to better urban governance.
Bandra Railway Station to get a restaurant-on-wheels
In a parallel development, Western Railway has taken an innovative approach to tackle unauthorised parking at Bandra Terminus by introducing a unique open-air restaurant-on-wheels. A decommissioned railway coach will be converted into a cultural dining space, complete with live music and outdoor seating, transforming the area into a lively hub.
This project aims to prevent illegal parking while also adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the station, enhancing Bandra’s appeal.
