Amid scorching temperatures and logistical hiccups, Mumbaikars exercised their democratic right with a turnout of 52.27% in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections on Monday, marking a decline from the 2019 figures.
The metropolis, along with its sprawling suburbs, contributed to the final leg of polling in Maharashtra, with a total of 13 constituencies, including six from Mumbai and four from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), participating in the electoral process.

Among all the constituencies, South Mumbai witnessed the lowest voter engagement at a mere 47.7%. This dismal performance continues a historical trend of struggle in voter turnout for the constituency, reflecting a decline from the 2019 elections, where it recorded 51.58%.
Complaints of delayed voting procedures, exacerbated by sweltering conditions and technical glitches, marred the voting experience for many across the city.
Despite challenges, notable figures from Mumbai’s social and entertainment spheres, including industrialists like Anil Ambani and Mukesh Ambani, and film personalities like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, exercised their franchise, underscoring the significance of this civic participation.
