Two-wheelers and auto rickshaws still use the Bandra Kurla Complex-Chunabhatti Connector and JJ flyover despite a ban, owing to poor signage. Signs prohibiting these vehicles are often poorly placed or too small to be noticed by commuters, leading many to realise their mistake only when they encounter traffic police at exit points. Bikers and drivers are then fined ₹500 for entering these access-controlled routes.
On the BKC connector, signs are located on the median and at entry points but are either too small or not visible enough for drivers. Similarly, on the JJ flyover, signs at either end are often overlooked by riders travelling at high speeds. Commuters have called for larger, more visible signs placed at least 500 meters before entry points to prevent violations.
Experts have pointed to a lack of co-ordination between the BMC’s roads department and the traffic police, leading to poor signage and road markings.
