Mumbai’s upscale Bandra West witnessed a massive 22-hour firefighting operation after a blaze erupted at Link Square Mall early Tuesday. The fire, which started in a basement electronics showroom at 4:10 AM, quickly spread across the three-story building, gutting over 200 shops.
The fire, classified as a ‘Level IV’ major blaze, required 13 fire engines, multiple support vehicles, and assistance from the NDRF. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Fire Chief Ravindra Ambulgekar cited poor access and flammable materials as major challenges.
An inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause, with officials pointing to structural issues like mesh shutters and obstructive partitions. The incident has sparked political debate, with local leaders calling for accountability. This is Mumbai’s second major fire in just two days, following a blaze at the ED office in Ballard Estate on Sunday.
