A cutting-edge AI/Drone Forensic Lab has been launched at Lucknow’s Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), strengthening the fight against cybercrime. The launch took place during a three-day international summit on cyber warfare and forensics, further emphasising the state’s commitment to combating digital threats.
Currently, 12 advanced forensic labs are operational across the state, with six more under construction. With plans to increase this number to 18 labs (up from just 4 in 2017), along with 75 mobile forensic vans and the creation of a new cyber headquarters, Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to bolster its fight against digital crimes.
Advanced DNA Centre, AI/Drone Lab, and more
The Advanced DNA Diagnostic Centre and the AI/Drone Lab in Lucknow, was conceived and developed by Milind Raj, the ‘Drone Man of India’ and a leading expert in robotics and drone technology. Raj, now a forensic drone expert at UPSIFS, played a key role in the lab’s establishment. In addition, the CM distributed smart tablets to students. His vision is to arm the UP Police with cutting-edge technology to address the growing cybercrime threat, ensuring a safer and more technologically advanced future for the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significant technological transformation of the UP Police, from making forensic evidence mandatory in serious crimes to ensuring criminals are apprehended within 48 hours. He announced that all 75 districts now have cyber police stations, and 1,587 police stations are equipped with cyber help desks staffed by trained personnel.
The summit is focused on developing strategic countermeasures to address the growing cyber threats, reinforcing Uttar Pradesh’s position as a leader in forensic and cybersecurity innovation.
