Fueling a major overhaul for street vending in Lucknow, usual handcarts will be replaced with ‘modern carts’ across vending zones in Lucknow. Changing the face of local markets, this initiative will help in driving the Smart City Mission in the city. As a part of this program, the street retailers will get easy loans from the banks to buy ‘modern carts’ and one-year free insurance will also be provided to them.
6 feet long vehicle to be equipped with a solar panel
Crafted in steel, the modern cart will have a solar panel, which will ensure electricity for the four lights installed in it. This advanced cart is being designed as per the needs of vegetable, paan and fast-food sellers. The 6 feet long wheeled facility will have two steel dustbins, which will be used for separate collection of dry and wet waste.
A team of officials from the Municipal Corporation and FSDA will work on the installation of modern carts in the city. Moving ahead with the plans, the authorities have already presented a demo in front of the government. The civic body will develop a framework for the ‘modern cart’ soon, after holding deliberations with the shopkeepers.
Town Vending Committee to monitor operations of modern carts
FSDA has also amplified the work of connecting shopkeepers to the department. It has been informed that only FSSAI approved food will be sold in ‘Modern Cart’. Along with this, the Town Vending Committee will also monitor the operations of modern carts in different areas. Municipal Corporation and FSDA have also chalked out several models by meeting with the cart-making company. Now, it is expected that the final plan will be rolled out soon.
