In a bid to improve Lucknow’s ranking in Swachh Sarvekshan 2022, LMC is taking strict measures to amp up the sanitisation work across the city. Under the ambit of the Smart City Project, the civic body has begun the installation of new underground dumpsters. These bins will be installed at multiple locations in the city and are a great way to augment the garbage disposal system.

Unnecessary garbage dumped on the roadside will soon be a thing of the past in Lucknow, as the LMC has already initiated the installation work of ATM-like bins for underground waste collection. As per officials, while two of these structures will be installed in Vidhan Bhavan, one such machine will be set up at other prominent places across the city.
The multi-divisional minister’s residence in Dalibagh, Kaiserbagh Bus Stand, Ameeruddaula Jhande Waala Park in Aminabad, Lok Bhawan, Hazratganj, Sahara Park, Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Gol Market Mahanagar, Chinhat, Charbagh Railway Station, Lucknow Airport, Nilgiri Complex in Indira Nagar, Munshipulia, Bhootnath Market, Zonal Park Hindnagar and Airport Colony have made it to the list.

Notably, these underground smart bins are already in use in bigger cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Surat. Based on the spring technology, once full, these dustbins are emptied and cleaned by the respective municipalities for further use. These Smart Bins will not just boost the cleanliness in Lucknow but will also help save the lives of many stray animals by keeping disposed of polythene and other toxic wastes away from their reach.
