Lucknow is getting its own naval museum, the “Nausena Shaurya Sangrahalaya,” being built by the Uttar Pradesh government in partnership with the Indian Navy near Ekana Stadium on 15,800 square meters at a cost of ₹23 crore. With 20% of construction complete, officials are now focusing on transporting naval artifacts for display.
Featuring digital history and open-air exhibits
The museum will showcase relics from INS Gomati, decommissioned in May 2022 after 34 years of service, along with a TU-142 Naval aircraft and SK-42B helicopter being relocated from INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu. Visitors can look forward to interactive experiences including 360-degree cockpit simulations replicating aircraft take-offs and submarine control rooms, complemented by touchscreens and projection walls.
The project comprises two sections, an Interpretation Centre featuring India’s naval history through digital exhibits, and an open-air museum displaying decommissioned ships and aircraft. Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat emphasised the museum aims to inspire youth to join the Indian Navy while creating a unique tourism experience in Lucknow.
