Fueling industrial growth in the state, Uttar Pradesh will soon evolve as a production centre for the development of advanced BrahMos Missile. As per reports, Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) has asked for an area of 200 acres near Lucknow for this project. Reportedly, ₹300 crores will be invested in the first phase and it is expected that the scheme will propel significant industrial progress in Kanpur too.
70 new ancillary units to come up in the state

Last month, the Industrial Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh met with the Chief Executive Officer and the Managing Director of Brahmos Aerospace. There, he proposed the production of Brahmos missile and other defence equipment in the state. Now, a scheme is being formulated for this project, which will be implemented across Lucknow, Kanpur and Jhansi. As per reports, it is anticipated that this initiative would lead to the inception of around 70 ancillary units.
This production line of DRDO will be a part of the Defence Corridor. While a number of regions are being assessed for the project, the final location will be identified soon. Notably, supersonic cruise missile BrahMos is one of the most dangerous missiles of the 21st century. Last year, the BrahMos missile with a range of 290 Km was tested at Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Kanpur to encapsulate a wide range of defence production units

Reportedly, Kanpur houses the biggest production infrastructure for the development of defence equipment in the state. As per, the city encapsulates over 300 big and small production units, wherein products worth ₹1,500 crores are manufactured. Remarkably, the stabiliser of the Pinaka missile is produced in the Ordnance Factory of Kanpur. Now, the latest plans will augment the centres in the city, making it a prominent hub for defence manufacturing.
