Bringing accolades for the city, veteran actor and theatre artist from Lucknow, Dr. Anil Rastogi, has received the prestigious Kalidas Samman for the year 2019. Dr. Rastogi, the general secretary of the Darpan theatre group has been honoured for his contribution to acting, culture and theatre by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. According to the reports, the award includes a cash prize of ₹2 lakh and a citation by the administration for the actor’s exemplary work in this field.

Born and brought up in Lucknow, Dr. Anil Rastogi has worked extensively in theatres, television and films as well. Notably, the thespian has given more than 600 theatre performances till thedate. Apart from theatres, he has made a mark for himself in Bollywood as well, by working in movies like Ishaqzaade, Mulk, Main Meri Patni Aur Woh and Raid among others.
After proving his mettle in the television industry with dramas like Na Bole Tum Naa Maine Kuch Kaha, Udaan, Razia Sultan and others Dr. Rastogi has now ventured in the online web series like Ashram as well. Thanking the MP government for recognising his talent and acknowledging his contribution in this field, Dr Rastogi said that the recognition pushes him to work even harder and better now. Apart from this award, the thespian has received many recognitions like the Yash Bharti, UP Sangeet Natak Akademi award, UP Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow and Awadh Samman earlier as well.

A prestigious arts award honouring the extraordinary work of Indian artists across various fields, the Kalidas Samman is presented annually by the government of Madhya Pradesh. Named after Kalidas, the renowned Classical Sanskrit writer of ancient India, this award was initiated in the year 1980. Notably, the department of culture, Madhya Pradesh confers this honour to artists for their contributions in literature, culture, cinema and social harmony, every year.
A lesser-known fact: While the thespian is known for his outstanding acting skills, not many people are aware of his strong academic background. With an M.Sc and Ph.D, Dr. Rastogi has worked at Lucknow’s Central Drug Research Institute as well. Former scientist retired as the Head of Biochemistry and Directors Grade Scientist in 2003.
