The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has announced its budget for 2025-26, with a strong focus on sanitation and road infrastructure to address key civic concerns. This year’s budget amount (₹4,236.63 crore), has significantly increased as compared to the previous fiscal. One of the key reasons is Lucknow’s sharp drop in Swachh Survekshan rankings–from 17th place in 2022 to 44th in 2023. In response, the municipal body is intensifying efforts to enhance waste management and sanitation services.
A significant portion of the budget has been earmarked for cleanliness initiatives, focusing on expanding garbage collection, modernising waste disposal systems and upgrading public sanitation infrastructure.
Road infrastructure to also get a boost

Apart from sanitation, the corporation is also focusing on road development and maintenance. Funds will be allocated for road repairs, new construction, and the installation of interlocking tiles to ensure smoother and safer commuting for residents. Special attention will be given to patchwork repairs and maintaining road quality in frequently congested areas.
Despite the increase in expenditure, the LMC has assured residents that there will be no hike in property tax, water tax or sewer tax. However, the administration is aiming to boost revenue through efficient tax collection mechanisms, particularly targeting property tax compliance.
