After a gap of two long years, the National Botanical Research Institute in Lucknow is all set to organise its annual flower show this month. For the first time ever, NBRI will organise a unique Bougainvillea Flower show on April 13 in the Capital City. Notably, the institute had planned on organising this flower show back in 2020, however, with the onset of the COVID pandemic the plan could not be materialised then. Earlier this year, the institute’s administration had planned a special show for Chrysanthemum and Coleus flowers and a separate show for Rose and Gladiolus as well. With the onset of the omicron-led third wave of coronavirus in early 2022, these shows stood cancelled by the authority too.

With the decline in COVID cases across Uttar Pradesh and the entire country at large, this flower exhibition will now be hosted at the pre-COVID capacity at NBRI. According to officials, since this is the first edition of the bougainvillea show, no competition will be held this year however, visitors will have a chance to buy bougainvillea plants at the show. With this floral exhibition, the institute aims to showcase its beautiful collection while highlighting its grafting techniques. Apart from being a magnet for flora-enthusiasts and budding floriculturists, this flower show will also be a special one for botany students and researchers.
