In a bid to ensure amplified connectivity and internet services across different regions of the state, a large number of cities in Uttar Pradesh will be equipped with free WiFi facilities soon. This includes 17 districts that have municipal corporations besides a list of other regions governed by municipal councils. As per reports, the concerned authorities have issued directives to the district commissioners and other officials for the implementation of this project.
200 regions under municipal councils to be benefitted
Reportedly, the major cities will have free WiFi facilities at two spots while the smaller cities will be provided with this service at a single location. As per reports, the Additional Chief Secretary of the District Development Department, Dr. Rajneesh Dubey stated the residents across a number of cities are not able to avail of the free internet facility due to numerous lags. In view of this, it is important to make sure that all such services are mended on an emergency basis assuring quick benefits to the citizens.
As per reports, the authorities have prepared plans for the introduction of free WiFi across 200 regions managed by municipal councils. Besides this, the major cities under the project include Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagaraj, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Bareilly, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Meerut, Shahjahanpur, Ghaziabad, Mathura-Vrindavan and Ferozabad.
Suitable spots for setting up internet facilities being identified
As per reports, it has been stated that the free facility shall be provided around bus stands, railway stations, courts and registrar offices amongst other places. Thereby, the officials have started a program to locate and identify suitable regions. The district development authorities will collaborate with internet companies for this project. It has been reported that the scheme will be financed either under the smart city project or by the funds of urban bodies.
