As per the latest reports, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has asked officials to conduct verification of arms and liquor licenses. Post review, if any individual with these licenses is found to be associated with delinquency, then their licenses shall be revoked. This initiative has been taken up by the state government in an attempt to curb criminal activities across, thereby, effectively bringing down the crime rate of Uttar Pradesh.
Excise & Home Department to review licenses
As per the latest developments, the officials of the Excise Department have been instructed by the apex authorities to verify liquor licenses and inspect shops to check the sale of spurious liquor. Strict action will be taken against those who are engaging in sales illegally.
Moreover, licenses of those who possess no valid reason to procure it or those who are involved in criminal activities will be revoked with immediate effect. Revenue generated from the sale of liquor is one major source that contributes towards the state treasury but the government is ready to take a financial hit given that this initiative will be beneficial for residents.
A similar termination procedure will be followed in the case of arms licenses, where the review process will be carried out by the Home Department. However, as a first step, the officials will ensure that those who are not legally authorised to carry weapons are not in possession of the same. Further, if the reasons for issuing licenses is found inadequate, then also the licenses will be withdrawn.
