The active involvement of Kanpurites in the trials for state-level competitions is all set to strengthen the position of this city as a sports hub. As per the latest news, players from the city have been selected to compete in the state-level Shooting and national-level Fencing competition, slated to commence soon. Further, the city’s Bodybuilding Association is hosting trials for players who wish to compete in the upcoming championship, being organised on 13 March. With these developments, Kanpur is soon expected to become a home to top-notch sports stalwarts!
9 chosen from Kanpur in upcoming state-level Shooting Championship
The State Shooting Championship, commencing on 27 February and ending on 6 March, is being held in Noida. On Tuesday, 23 February, 9 participants left from Kanpur to take part in various categories that this competition is hosting. Nandini Nigam, Mayank, Navodit Singh, Vanya Jindal, Sangeeta Singh and Sita Sharma will be competing in the 177 Rifle Shooting Competition. Further, Mumtaz, Abhishek Verma and Arun Tiwari will be competing in the Pistol Shooting category.
Selection of state team for Fencing competition
130 players participated in trials held for the selection of the state’s Fencing team at Gokul Dham Dharamshala, Sarsaiyya Ghat, Kanpur. The selection committee finalised a list of 16 players who hail from different corners of the state, from Agra to Jaunpur. These selected players will be competing in the Senior National Fencing Tournament which is being organised from 19 March to 21 March in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand.
Selection for Body-building competition at Kakadeo centre
Mr. UP Body-building competition will take place in Gorakhpur on 13th March. Vivek Sehgal of Kanpur’s Bodybuilding Association stated that interested candidates can send in their application of interest at the fitness centre located in Kakadeo, where the trials for the same will also be conducted, read reports.
The increased selection from Kanpur in these trials will ensure that the city keeps producing the likes of cricketer Kuldeep Yadav- who is making Kanpurites proud with his performance at the international level.
