Kanpur’s covid graph has again shown a sudden spike in the daily tally of cases on Saturday with 887 fresh cases and 616 cases on Sunday. This comes after showing a considerable dip in cases on Thursday, with 354 cases. The active case count of the city now stands at 3671, while the discharges in the industrial city are at 428, with 1 death reported in the last 24 hours.

On Saturday, Kanpur’s witnessed the highest single day surge of 887 fresh cases, in the third wave. After reporting a daily tally of 500 plus infections for Tuesday and Wednesday, the tally of Thursday had come as a bearer of good news for city residents, only for the numbers to be almost doubled on Saturday.
According to a circular by the state government, released on 22 January, over 2,37,109 covid samples had been tested in Uttar Pradesh in just 24 hours. In total, over 9,76,98,882 samples had been tested in the state while over 1,17,262 samples had been sent for RT PCR. The active cases in the state stand at 96,642 wherein 94,002 people are under home isolation, while 1.5% patients of the total, are hospitalized. Insisting that all eligible persons complete their primary 2 doses of vaccination, the circular added that, on 21st January, 22,28,668 doses have been administered in the state, out of which adolescents account for almost 3,36,373 doses. The count of precaution doses administered in the state stand at 7,11,288.

Meanwhile, after recording it’s highest daily tally of 30,170 cases on January 14, Uttar Pradesh has seen a slight decline since then, with 21st January’s tally standing at 16,159 cases. Amid the rising covid cases, the state has also extended the closure of it’s schools till January 30. A few states that are witnessing a decline in their daily covid tally are Karnataka, Maharastra, Delhi among others.
Notably, UP has become the first state in the country, to cross the 24 crore vaccination mark on Wednesday. Among all states, Lucknow has topped the charts with 68.17 lakhs vaccines being administered, followed by Prayagraj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Agra Varanasi also administering around 50 lakh doses.
