With its speed of development, Kanpur Metro has made a mark for itself, evolving as one of the most fast-paced projects in the country. As per the latest developments, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is trying to accelerate the construction of the station concourses along the proposed route. First, to use double-T girders for station concourses amongst all metro projects in the country, UPMRC eyes commissioning of the Kanpur Metro as soon as possible.
Basic structure prepared for 7 stations on the metro route

The basic structure for the development of all station concourses lying on the IIT to Rawatpur route of the Kanpur Metro has been prepared. As per the information available on the UPMRC platforms, the setting-up of double T-girders has been completed across seven stations between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel. The underlying structures have been completed for metro station complexes at IIT-Kanpur, Kalyanpur Railway Station, SPM hospital, Kanpur University, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar and Rawatpur Railway Station. It is expected that the installation of double T-girders would be soon completed at LLR(Hallet) Hospital and Motijheel stations too.
Double T-girders assure reduced construction time & better finishing

Usually, an aggregate of single T-girders is used for metro station concourses but the Kanpur Metro is deploying double T-girders for the construction of concourses at its elevated stations. This would not only facilitate in reducing the construction time but also guarantee a better finishing to the structure. It is important to note that UPMRC is the first metro authority in the country that has used double T-girders for building metro station concourses.
With an array of innovative schemes, UPMRC has been successful in awarding the Lucknow Metro with a list of ‘firsts’. It can be expected that the Kanpur metro would also garner similar recognition once it starts operations.
