Built by Rao Jodha in 1459, Mehrangarh’s sandstone structure, its sprawling courtyards, museums and galleries allure tourists from all over the world. Apart from emerald-studded shields and gold plated guns, the armoury of this fort is home to rare artefacts such as the swords of great rulers- Emperor Akbar and Timur.
Beautiful Marwar paintings, royal palanquins and elephant howdahs are showcased within the premises of Mehrangarh that shed light on the cultural affiliations of the city. One of the best-preserved monuments in India, it is home to opulent palaces like the Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Daulat Khana, Sheesh Mahal and Sileh Khan. Each of these brilliantly crafted chambers reflects the penchant of their creators who belonged to the royal family.

The Mehrangarh Fort’s architecture derives its uniqueness from the fact that it was built in sections between the 15th century to 20th century. This fort has seven majestic entrances namely Victory Gate, Fateh Gate, Gopal Gate, Bhairon Gate, Dedh Kamagra Gate, Marti Gate and Loha Gate.
All these gates were built over the span of almost 500 years and served different purposes at the time of their construction. Today, the most famous among these is the Victory Gate, which is said to be built by Maharaja Man Singh after he registered victory over the armies of Jaipur and Bikaner.
