Improving the situation of unwanted traffic and catering to covid protocols, toll plazas at state and national highways are swiftly adopting cashless and contactless measures, such as FASTags. As per the latest reports, the FASTag facility will commence from 25 June for the vehicles passing through the Indore-Ujjain four-lane state highway.
The testing for the same was done for a period of 7 days and has been successfully concluded on Tuesday. It must be noted that a change in the method of toll collection doesn’t mean that toll charges will be reduced or increased.
Cash lanes on national highways now converted into FASTag lanes
While FASTags speed up the process of collecting toll tax, a cash lane has been reserved to cater to travellers who haven’t updated their vehicles with the tag. If vehicles with FASTag travel in cash lanes or vehicles without FASTag travel in the tag lane, then the drivers will be financially penalised, however, the charges for this haven’t been fixed yet.
The cash lanes on national highways have now been converted to FASTag lanes but a decision regarding keeping the cash lane on this state highway, is yet to be taken. The toll company has reportedly stated that a verdict on this will be given keeping in mind the convenience of drivers and passengers and the officials of MPSRDC are also monitoring this situation.
Upcoming FASTag toll plazas near Indore
Officials are preparing to begin the FASTag facility at the toll plaza on the MR-10. As per the statement of Indore Development Authority’s CEO, PATH (Prakash Asphalting’s and Toll Highways) India Limited has the contract for this, which is valid till 2024.
