Human expansion is an ever constant process but it often comes a a recurring price. Whether it is deforestation, excessive mining or depleting ground water, the cost is often high. One such example is the new highway construction from Indore to Khalghat, an 8.87 km stretch. The crazy part is that the highway will cut through mountains to complete the road, and the process of cutting the mountain has begun.
National Highway of India (NHAI) is planning to build this highway as an alternative, 2.5 kms away to the existing existing five lane road. For this project, bridges will also be built at four places, and four houses obstructing road construction will be removed.
New Indore to Khalghat Highway to minimise accidents
In the last 15 years, more than 3,000 accidents have been reported at Ganesh Ghat, where as many as 450 people have lost their lives. The accidents are often attributed to the slant road and high speed.
This second, three lane, 8.87 km long route with a width of 30 meters is being built to prevent these accidents at the Ganesh (Ganpati) Ghat. Haryana’s Kaulwala Construction Company was given a year and a half to build the road with a budget of ₹209 crore. However, efforts are being made to prepare it in one year.
