In view of the inflating infection tallies in Goa, the state government has announced that students of grade 10 will be exempted from the slated board examinations. Declaring this decision, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that all such pupils, enrolled in schools recognised by the state board, will be graded according to the marks obtained by them in internal tests. While the students were troubled by the uncertainties over the end assessment, their worries have been resolved now.
Decision to assure the wellbeing of the students
Speaking about the latest decision, the CM mentioned that both the students and parents were experiencing issues due to the upcoming exams, amidst the ongoing circumstances. Addressing the students, he said, “Over the last many days, parents, teachers and students too were phoning the Goa Board (of Secondary and Higher Secondary Examination) and even me personally, as an education minister, or asking whenever they meet me and asking when and how the exams are going to be held and what decision will be taken.”
He further informed that the Goa board was instructed to form a committee to decide over the matter. Thereby, the current intervention is a result of the deliberations between the Goa Board, Education Department, teachers and management. Post an online meeting on Sunday, the administration took this decision keeping in mind the well-being of a large count of students. It is noteworthy that the fate of students in class 12th is still to be decided upon. As per official officials records, a total of 43,547 students are registered for SSC and HSSC examinations, in the state.

1621 new infections were reported in Goa on Sunday while the recoveries increased by 2,545. Driven by this, the active tallies have contracted marginally but the count still remains in the alarming zone, standing at 17,277 patients. As of now, a cumulative count of 1,46,460 individuals in the state has have been affected by the virus and 2,383 fatalities have been recorded.
