Moving forward with the agenda of biodiversity conservation in Goa, 6 water bodies in the state will soon get a tag under the wetlands category. As per the announcement made by the State Environment Minister on Sunday, these water bodies will be marked as wetlands in sync with the rules set by the Union Ministry of Environment. With this addition to the existing 7 water bodies, Goa will house a total of 13 NGT-declared wetlands.
Biodiversity conservation for a better future
Notably, the administration is undertaking various measures to upgrade biodiversity management along with huge public support. While planning for the future by linking biodiversity and environmental conservation, the authorities actually aim to prevent pandemics, climate change and such monumental issues.
New multi-product processing centre set up at Curchorem
In the same strive, the state government has also launched a multi product processing centre at Curchorem. This comes in after the overwhelming response to the establishment of the first such centre at Pale. Women get trained to make a living out by processing and making byproducts of natural items.
Launched under the ambit of the GoVan Project by the Goa state diversity board, these centres not only offer employment opportunities to local women but also further the aim of biodiversity conservation in the state.
