The monsoon winds marked an early arrival in Uttar Pradesh on June 13, granting the citizens a major respite from the long summer days. As predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department, Lucknow welcomed the trade winds on Monday, marking the formal onset of monsoon. The city also experienced moderate pre-monsoon showers on Sunday, up to 10mm, yielding a pleasant Sunday for the city dwellers.

Lucknowites woke up to a washed morning on Monday, marked by a heavy nimbus cover and cool temperatures. As per forecasts, the city is set to receive moderate showers through most part of the day, accompanied by thunderstorms. Certain areas may receive heavy rains, as well. The maximum and minimum temperatures will shuttle between 29°C to 25°C today.
These rains have been propelled by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and a stream of cyclonic circulations over Uttar Pradesh. This created a favourable pressure gradient for the winds to rapidly advance here, covering the eastern region of the state, including Lucknow and other districts under its scope.

Continuous light to moderate showers will extend over the state capital and most other regions for the next 48 hours, the forecast read. Isolated spells of heavy bursts can also be expected in certain regions.

It may be noted that the southwest trade winds have reached northern India well in time for the second consecutive year, almost a week in advance. As per reports, it normally tasks 15 days for the trade winds to reach UP from Kerala but this year, it took only 10 days.
