Heatwave returns to Ahmedabad, temperature soars to 45.2°C
Just when Amdavadis thought the heatwave was finally easing, with Sunday bringing a drop in temperature and cool winds, the city is experiencing another heatwave spell. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad soared to 45.2°C on Monday, which is 3.3°C above normal.
This week, the temperature is expected to hover around 43-44°C with hot and humid weather.
Fire safety inspections begin in Ahmedabad schools
Following the Rajkot fire incident, authorities have initiated fire safety inspections across 140 schools in Ahmedabad City and Rural areas, including government, grant-in-aid, and self-financed institutions.
The inspections on the first day revealed that all schools had valid fire safety certificates and functional equipment, ensuring compliance with fire safety norms.
CCTV cameras on flyovers and bridges still remain unfunctional
Following the tragic car accident on the Iskcon flyover, the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced plans to install CCTV cameras on all city flyovers and bridges. However, ten months have passed and cameras have been installed on 70 of the 81 flyovers and bridges, but they are not yet functional. The AMC aims to make these operational within the next two months.
Currently, only 18 of the 70 bridges with installed CCTV systems are connected to the command and control centre, with nine more expected to be connected within the next week.
Last day for Gujarat University graduate course applications
Today marks the final day for students to apply online via the GCAS portal for graduate courses at Gujarat University. From June 13th to 21st, students can obtain admission-related documents, pay fees, and report to their respective colleges.
The final admission list will be announced on June 12. Students can choose their preferences from June 2 to June 5. Detailed admission procedures are available on the GCAS portal.

Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnav, announced a key advancement in the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet train project. A 394-meter additionally driven intermediary tunnel, called ADIT, has been completed in six months and will facilitate the construction of the main 21-kilometer bullet train tunnel, including a 7-kilometer undersea section.
The entire project spans 508.18 kilometers, with 12 stations planned between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
