The pandemic has affected the education system in a huge way. Even though online classes have replaced physical classes, staying at home for such a long duration has taken away a lot of opportunities from students of schools and colleges alike. In such times, the authorities are trying their best to provide assistance and tackle all the hurdles. And now, in an attempt to timely award degrees to college students, new instructions have been given to universities across UP.
Chancellor of state universities & UP Governor, Andiben Patel has directed Vice-Chancellors of Universities across the state to send college degrees to students by post. The decision was formalised in an online review meeting of two state institutes, Lucknow University and Bathkhande Music Institute Deemed University and ensures that students do not have to run for their degrees.
Students to receive degrees via post
The directive ordains all colleges and universities across the state to hand over the students’ degrees soon after the convocation, in a timely manner. Postal services will also be used to ensure that the graduates get their certificates safely amid the pandemic hour.
Varsities to conduct webinars to orient new village pradhans
It’s also been suggested that the universities should hold orientation webinars and training sessions to appraise the newly elected village pradhans of the public welfare schemes. “Most of the women gram pradhans belong to self-help groups. Universities should make them aware of the malpractices in society like dowry, discrimination of male and female children so that they can motivate women in their villages to fight against such social evils,” the Governor added. Here, it may be noted that out of all village pradhans, about 1/3rd are women.
Universities have further been asked visit to Nari Niketan hospitals for girls and provide them an opportunity and experience of learning. She also directed universities to adopt children who have been orphaned after losing their parents to Covid.
