The COVID threat has gained more momentum in Goa, as the state witnessed its highest single-day surge on Sunday, with 2,293 fresh cases. This is the first time since the pandemic outbreak, that the daily infection count has breached the 2,000-mark here, raising concerns. This high count was noted a day after the state cabinet ruled out lockdown as a means to restrict the case inflation. As per reports, the CM on Saturday announced that the health infrastructure can tackle the rise.
Goa COVID update
The pandemic horror has intensified in Goa with cases rising to record high tallies here. The state is under the grip of the coronavirus which is surging at 2.1%, further furnishing as many as 10,265 cases in the last week alone. This volatile spread and high transmission have further yielded a 17.7% active ratio here. About 13,689 active cases are under active treatment across state hospitals, care centres, other health centres and home isolation. As yet, as many as 77,477 coronavirus cases have been confirmed here since the initial outbreak.
Recovery is rising at 81% and the state recorded 658 case recoveries in the last 24 hours. Until now, 62,771 people have survived the COVID infection in Goa, reportedly. On Sunday, about 24 more patients succumbed to the virus, pushing the toll to 1,017, the officials added.
Meanwhile, the state has successfully immunised 3,04,009 people since January 16, the Health Department reports highlighted. Out of this, about 4,771 were inoculated on Sunday. As permitted by the Centre, Goa will also begin the vaccination of people aged between 18 to 45 years of age from May 1, streamlined with the other states. The cost of vaccination, in this phase will be borne by the state, officials have highlighted.
