In view of the increasing pollution problems in the state, Lucknow, Kanpur and 5 other UP districts will be upgraded with facilities for the regular monitoring of air quality, with the objective of ensuring related dynamic solutions. Depending on the findings from the detailed observations, the officials will plan and implement measures for air purification in the respective cities.
Regular monitoring to aid in formalising quick action plans
Apart from Lucknow and Kanpur, the scheme will be rolled out in Agra, Varanasi, Meerut, Prayagraj and Ghaziabad. Through orderly monitoring of the air quality, the authorities will not only be able to prepare quick action plans for the future but also look at viable options for mitigating the possibilities of degraded air quality.
It has been informed that this project will be executed under the Central government’s National Clean Air Program. One nodal officer from each municipal corporation, has also been nominated for this project by the Department of Urban Development.
Project being executed across cities with a population of over 10 lakhs
For the past few years, the urban areas have been troubled by smog in winter and poor air quality, on regular days. Taking cognisance of the circumstances, the officials are trying to monitor air quality daily, so that instant action can be taken in response to the issues that crop up. Notably, the first phase of this scheme includes cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs and it can be expected that other districts from the state will be roped in soon.
