In a step to promote women’s empowerment in the state, the Indian Industries Association (IIA) organised an LED workshop for the members of the self-help groups on Wednesday. Under this initiative, candidates were trained to produce LED lights, strings of light, LED bulbs and commodities of the ‘One District One Product’ program. All participants were also provided with toolkits ranging between ₹6,000 to ₹10,000, in a move to fuel financial independence.

The ‘One District One Product’ scheme aims to recognise the true prowess of the cities of UP by driving the markets of regional specialities. This, in turn, will boost economic growth, rural entrepreneurship and generate employment. According to an IIA member, Vivek Singh, the demand for state-made lights and chandeliers witnessed a surge within the country. Along with this, an enhanced market in foreign countries like Nigeria, Afghanistan and Dubai is also emerging gradually.
It was also noted by the president of IIA, Ashok Aggarwal that multiple countries have shown their explicit interest in launching units in the state, given the policies that promote a suitable environment. He further stated that representatives from Uganda and Taiwan also contacted the departmental authorities for investments, commodity exchange and training.

Ashok said, “UP is at the fifth position in exports. Women are getting benefits directly from central and state government schemes. The state government is making them self-reliant by organising special training sessions and giving toolkits.”
Organised at the campus of the Indian Industries Association (IIA), the one-day training seminar was attended by 30 women of self-help groups who were taught to assemble LED lights, string lights, LED bulbs and ODOP products. As of now, more than 6000 women have been trained to become self reliable in this business across different parts of Uttar Pradesh.
