Raising the pandemic concern in Uttar Pradesh, the Kappa COVID variant has claimed the life of a 66-year-old man in Sant Kabir Nagar. The presence of this mutation has come soon after the detection of two new Delta Plus cases in Deoria and Gorakhpur. As per reports, the strain was detected during a genome sequencing exercise.

Health experts have raised alarm over the Kappa strain and have declared it a variant of concern. Officials believe that the virus is changing its form in the state as none of the 3 cases mentioned earlier, had a travel history. Kappa strain in the UP man was detected after the sample was sent to CSIR’s Institute of Genomic and Integrative Biology, New Delhi.
As per reports, the patient tested COVID positive on May 27 and was then sent to medical college on June 12. His sample was collected on June 13 as a routine and sent to the New Delhi unit. Head of the microbiology department at BRD Medical College, Amresh Singh informed that the patient died in the course of treatment on June 14. He had no travel history.
