To tackle the traffic congestion faced by Mumbaikars, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced the launch of a new Parking Application. With the help of this mobile app, users will be able to book parking slots in advance and make online payments.
Part of BMC’s 2025-26 Budget, the app aims to tackle Mumbai’s parking shortage and its infamous traffic congestion. But will this new digital solution actually help or will it simply add another app to Mumbaikars’ phones, with the same old gridlock to deal with? Only time will tell! BMC’s solution for Mumbai’s traffic
Access Control Project: The foundation stone for this project was laid on October 11, 2024. Improvement work is currently under progress at one junction on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and three junctions on the Western Express Highway (WEH).
Area Traffic Control (ATC) System: The implementation of ATC at signal junctions in Greater Mumbai is underway to reduce waiting times.
Pedestrian-Friendly Infrastructure: BMC is improving Mumbai’s footpaths by addressing concerns related to their width, safety, accessibility, and routine maintenance. A well-maintained pedestrian network is expected to reduce vehicle dependency, promoting a healthier and less congested city.
