Mumbai’s renowned flautist, Pandit Ronu Majumdar, made history by leading a symphony of 546 musicians at Gwalior Fort, Madhya Pradesh, securing a Guinness World Record for the “largest Hindustani Classical Band”. The record-breaking performance featured his original composition, Samvet, which blended the classical ragas Miyan Malhar, Miyan ki Todi, and Darbari.
Majumdar was honoured with the official Guinness certificate at a special felicitation ceremony, where he was congratulated by Guinness representatives Nishchal Barot and Richard Stenning.
Majumdar acknowledged the support of the Madhya Pradesh Government, Cultural Department, Chief Minister, and Union Minister for their unwavering support in making this historic achievement possible.
Known for his collaborations with global icons like George Harrison and Pt. Ravi Shankar, Majumdar’s achievements in music also include albums like A Traveller’s Tale and Primary Colors. He has been honoured with prestigious awards, including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award and Lifetime Achievement Award by Sahara India.
