From January, patients at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow will have access to robotic surgery. Government has approved the budget and the service is expected to launch in the last week of January 2024.
Among approximately 70 medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, KGMU will be the second hospital to offer robotic surgery; SGPGI being the first. However, the cost of a robotic surgeries at KGMU will be lower than that of SGPGI, offering financial relief to patients.
Two robots at a cost of ₹23 crores
Under this initiative, two robots will be purchased: one for performing surgeries costing ₹15 crores, and another for training doctors at ₹8 crores. As per reports, KGMU has completed all necessary formalities for the same.
Robotic surgery services will be rolled out in phases across eight departments: General Surgery, Urology, Endocrine Surgery, Gastro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Gynaecology.
According to experts, this advanced technology will ensure more precise operations and quicker recovery for patients.
