From 2025, Maharashtra State Board schools will start the new academic session in April, shifting from the tradition of resuming classes on June 15. This change is part of the recently approved revised State Curriculum Framework for School Education (SCF-SE), which aligns with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schedule.
New structure incorporates CBSE textbooks; educators question move
The State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has introduced this revised framework in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The new structure not only standardises the academic year but also incorporates CBSE textbooks, adapted to include local context for Maharashtra students.
According to Rahul Rekhawar, director of SCERT, this alignment aims to better equip students for national-level competitive exams. However, the proposed change has sparked some pushback from educators, particularly regarding the practicality of the new calendar in regions like Vidarbha, where extreme heat can last until July.
